Trauma is rarely just a memory. It is a pattern the body learned to hold — a bracing, a tightness, a way of breathing that never quite settled.
Many people arrive at Difuso having already done years of talk therapy, understanding their story intellectually while still feeling stuck inside it.
That gap between knowing and healing is exactly where Trauma Alchemy begins.
A Facilitator-Led Approach
Stephanie Canavesio, co-founder of Difuso and facilitator in residence, developed her own approach — Presence Embodied — drawing in part on the Compassionate Inquiry method of physician and trauma expert Dr. Gabor Maté.
His work has long pointed to a distinction that shapes how this work is held. What matters is not only what happened to a person, but what happened inside them as a result, and how that response became a lasting pattern of self-protection.
What Alchemy Means in This Context
Alchemy here is not a metaphor for positivity. It means transformation through direct contact with what has been avoided.
Stephanie’s sessions combine breathwork, somatic practice, and compassionate, attuned inquiry to help people notice bodily sensation without immediately reacting to or suppressing it.
This is slow, careful work. Nothing is forced.
Why This Work Needs Time, Not a Weekend
Nervous systems do not reorganise on a schedule. This is one of the clearest reasons Difuso operates as a residency rather than a retreat.
Real trauma work asks for repetition, rest between sessions, and the safety of a consistent environment — all of which a one to twelve month stay in Sa Penya can naturally support in a way a single week cannot.
